Hommage à Beethoven

L. v. Beethoven, Symphony No. 9
Monday, 01.11.21 - 16:00
An die Freude

Freude, schöner Götterfunken,
Tochter aus Elisium,
Wir betreten feuertrunken
Himmlische, dein Heiligthum.

Deine Zauber binden wieder,
Was die Mode streng getheilt,
Alle Menschen werden Brüder,
Wo dein sanfter Flügel weilt.

Thus begins one of Friedrich Schiller's most famous poems, whose no less famous musical setting in the final movement of Ludwig van Beethoven's 9th Symphony we probably all know and have heard in the most diverse interpretations.

Appropriately for our festival motto "2020.2021.transformations," we are pleased to present a guest contribution by organist Anke Willwohl, who has transcribed Beethoven's monumental "Ninth" for organ and recorded it on her instrument in the Würzburg Heiligkreuz Church. The artist used Franz Liszt's piano transcription (s464) as a model.
