Portrait
Olivier Durendal
Sunday, 28.11.21 - 16:00Composers within the Festival
As part of the project Orgelfrühling Steiermark 2020.2021.transformations, we present selected artists in this format.
When our Festival commissioned the rather publicity-shy composer Olivier Durendal to compose a new work, the premiere was planned together with a performance of his work Fanfare de la Clarté du Ciel as part of the festival opening in the orchestra concert with the Kammersymphonie Berlin. However, due to the health policy situation, this concert could not take place as was intended, so the work has remained unperformed until now.
Thematically, Durendal's piece Logique Perfide echoes the original festival theme from 2020 - magic, miracles, myths and witchcraft. Like the Japanese composer and sound artist Reiko Yamada, Durendal in this piece deals with the Malleus Maleficarum, the "Hammer of Witches" by Heinrich Kramer from 1486, which was also the subject of the performing arts project Malleus Maleficarum - ein Tutorial with students of the University of Arts Graz in April.
In the context of this artist portrait, the composer presents the new piece in a podcast and for the first time provides insights into his work.
