Orgelfrühling Steiermark 2024

In the last season, the participating artists, the commissioned composers and the invited ensembles reflected on the theme of Dreamtime.

The programmes not only span five hundred years of music history, but also draw on texts from more than 40,000 years ago as well as the literature and science of our time.

Sleep, night time, the interpretation of dreams and ancient myths encounter the organ, as a solo instrument, as a stage character or as a high-tech computer.

Impressions

The opening of the festival took place on 5 April 2024 in the György Ligeti Hall of the MUMUTH in Graz. Werner Strenger and Gunther Rost premiered Traumnovelle by SJ Hanke, a cycle for theatre and electric organ based on the famous text of the same name ('Dream Story') by Arthur Schnitzler.
Laura Kerschbaumsteiner was responsible for the staging and costumes.

On 22 May 2024, we travelled through time in a program called ‘Traum und Zeit’ for the closing concert - with Gunther Rost, Lutz Koppetsch and 4D Barock.
In the Herz-Jesu-Kirche Graz, the ‘White Organ’ in front of the audience, the large Walcker organ in the gallery, two solo violins, a solo saxophone and a baroque orchestra performed a varied programme before the ‘Dreamtime’ of the 2024 organ spring season ended with the encore ‘Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme!’ by Johann Sebastian Bach.

The Orgelfrühling Steiermark team and the participating artists bid farewell to a wonderful audience after a successful concert season.

Thank you very much for your interest in the organ and in our events!
